Terms of service

Version 2026-10-25 · effective October 25, 2026

This is a translation, provided as a courtesy. Only the Dutch terms of service are legally binding; where the two differ, the Dutch text prevails.

QuoteUs exists to keep what gets said inside a small circle. That only works when everyone handles it with care. In these terms you can read what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.

These terms apply to everyone who uses the QuoteUs app, the website quoteus.eu or the web version of QuoteUs. By creating an account, you agree to them. How we handle your data is described in our privacy statement.

Who we are

QuoteUs is a service of Proxeuse, registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce under number 72311967, located at Loosduinsekade 209, 2571 BX The Hague, the Netherlands. When these terms say “we”, “us” or “QuoteUs”, they mean Proxeuse.

QuoteUs is free

QuoteUs is free, and we want to keep it that way. If we ever add paid features, they will be extras on top of what QuoteUs does today, and we will do our utmost to keep everything that is free, free. You never pay anything unless you separately agree to it in advance.

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If we find that someone younger has an account, we delete it.
  • You use your own name, or a name the people in your groups know you by, and an email address that is yours. You don’t pretend to be someone else.
  • An account is personal. You may not give it to or share it with anyone else.
  • QuoteUs has no passwords. You sign in with a passkey or with a login code we send to your email address. You are responsible for the devices that hold your passkeys and for access to your mailbox. If you think someone else has access to your account, end that session in the app and let us know.

What you put in QuoteUs

Quotes, comments, photos, videos, group names and anything else you put in QuoteUs are together called your content here.

You keep ownership. Your content stays yours. You are also legally responsible for it yourself: you decide what you save, not us. We don’t review content in advance.

You only give us what we need. To make QuoteUs work, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store your content, process it technically and show it to the members of the group you save it in. Processing it technically means, for example, building a search index, resizing photos and making backups. We don’t use your content for advertising or marketing, we don’t sell it and we don’t use it to train AI models.

A quote is a shared memory. When you leave a group or delete your account, the quotes in that group stay. The group has an interest in keeping its history, so our licence to those quotes continues for as long as they remain in the group. What happens to your name is described under Ending your account. Your comments and the photos and videos you added are deleted.

When the last member leaves a group, we delete the group together with all its quotes, comments, photos, videos and join codes. After 30 days everything is erased for good.

Quoting others

QuoteUs is about what other people say. That comes with responsibility:

  • Only save quotes of people you can reasonably assume are fine with it, and only in a group where they are fine with it being.
  • Don’t save anything that hurts, harms, ridicules or shows someone in a bad light, or anything someone clearly said in confidence.
  • Whoever saves a quote is responsible for it. That also applies when the author has no account and is a guest in the group.

If you appear in QuoteUs without having an account, you can email us at privacy@quoteus.eu. What we do then is described in our privacy statement.

Groups

Every group has owners, administrators and members. Together with the administrators, an owner decides who joins the group, can remove members and guests and, depending on the permissions the group has set up, can delete other people’s quotes and comments.

Owners and administrators have the first responsibility for dealing with problems in their group. If something goes wrong in a group, talk to each other first. That conversation happens outside QuoteUs. The text of a quote remains the responsibility of whoever saved it. For anything you report to us in the app, we remain the point of contact.

What is not allowed

We have zero tolerance for content or behaviour that is objectionable or against the law. You always use QuoteUs within the limits of the applicable laws and regulations. In particular, you may not:

  • intimidate, threaten, bully or harass anyone;
  • spread hate or discriminate, or call for violence;
  • share nude or sexual images of someone without their consent, or sexual content involving minors;
  • disclose other people’s private details, such as addresses or phone numbers;
  • infringe the rights of others, such as copyright, image rights or privacy;
  • send spam or use QuoteUs for advertising;
  • pretend to be someone else;
  • disrupt or overload QuoteUs or try to break into it, get around its security, or read it automatically without our permission.

Reporting and how we act

Reporting. See something that isn’t allowed? You can report a group, quote, comment or user in the app. You can also email abuse@quoteus.eu, for example if you don’t have an account. Tell us as precisely as you can what it is about and why you think it isn’t allowed. We never show anyone who reported them.

What we do. We handle every report carefully and as quickly as possible, and reports about serious matters, such as threats or nude images shared without consent, within 24 hours. We can also act when we come across something that isn’t allowed ourselves, or when the law requires us to. Depending on how serious it is, we can:

  • give you a warning;
  • remove content or hide it;
  • limit features of your account;
  • block an account or group, temporarily or permanently.

We choose a measure that fits what happened. Usually we warn first. We only act without a warning in the case of serious or repeated violations, or when the law requires us to.

You hear why. When we act, we tell you what we did, why, which part of these terms or the law we based it on, and how you can object. We also tell whoever reported something what we did with their report.

Objecting. If you disagree with a decision, reply to the email in which we explain it, or email abuse@quoteus.eu. We review your objection again and let you know what we decide. If you still disagree, you can go to court.

Availability

We do our best to make QuoteUs work well, but we offer QuoteUs for free, as it is. We don’t guarantee that QuoteUs is always available, works without errors or that content is never lost. We may change QuoteUs, add or remove features and interrupt QuoteUs temporarily, for example for maintenance.

If we stop QuoteUs altogether, we let you know at least 3 months in advance. During that time you can request your data from us in a common, machine-readable file.

Liability

  • We are not liable for indirect damage, such as consequential damage or the loss of content.
  • Where we are liable, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the damage, with a minimum of €50.
  • These limitations don’t apply if the damage results from intent or deliberate recklessness on our part, nor to the extent the law doesn’t allow them.
  • If someone holds us liable because you violated these terms or the law with your content or your behaviour, you compensate us for the resulting damage and costs.

Your rights as a consumer always apply. Nothing in these terms limits them.

Intellectual property and feedback

The QuoteUs app, the website, the name QuoteUs, the logo and the design belong to Proxeuse. You may use them the way QuoteUs is meant to be used, but you may not copy, modify or use them for anything else without our permission.

If you send us an idea, suggestion or other feedback, we may use it freely to improve QuoteUs. We may give you something for it, but we don’t owe you any compensation, financial or otherwise. This only concerns feedback you send us, not your content.

The App Store

If you download the QuoteUs app from the App Store, Apple’s Standard EULA applies as well. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for QuoteUs or for supporting it.

Ending your account

Yourself. You can always delete your account in the app, under Account, Privacy center. You are then signed out everywhere and we delete your account for good after 7 days. If you sign in within those 7 days, you stop the deletion. After deletion, quotes you are the author of stay in their group under the name “Deleted account”, and quotes you saved stay without your name. Your comments, the photos and videos you added and the join codes you made are deleted. We don’t rewrite the text of quotes, so if your name appears in the text itself, it stays there.

By us. We can block or delete your account if you seriously or repeatedly violate these terms, or if the law requires us to. As with every measure, we tell you why and you can object.

Changes

We may change these terms, for example when QuoteUs changes or the law requires it. We publish every version on this site, and earlier versions remain available here.

If something changes that materially affects you, we let you know in the app at least 30 days in advance and ask you to accept again. Until you accept, you can still view QuoteUs, but no longer add or change anything. If you don’t agree with the new terms, you can always delete your account.

Governing law

These terms and your use of QuoteUs are governed by Dutch law. Disputes are brought before the District Court of The Hague. If you live in another country, you keep the protection the law of your own country gives you as a consumer, and you can also go to the court in your own country.

If we can’t work something out, let us know first, and we’ll look for a solution together.

If part of these terms is invalid, the rest continues to apply.
